Astroturf Campaign
The Astroturf in Tabard Gardens Park has re opened after a £200,00 overhaul. However it is now being rented out to outside groups and the free time slots available for local residents have been cut back.
We have organised a campaign to make sure that all local residents get access to the pitch.

It is so sad and true what the 1st commentor says and i wonder where are all the wardens to control such antisocial behaviour and i agree lets clean up the wonderful space we have and enforce fine to those who leave there litter, and to dog owners who let thier dogs foul and run wild, put on more wardens on the park for a better and safer enviroment, it may not look good for wardens to be there but i would rather be feel safe than sorry.

I would rather the whole pitch was closed down for good! I live directly opposit it and have to endure the noise, screaming, shouting and swearing from the people on that pitch morning, noon and night. It is over run with screaming, swearing teenagers who ride their bikes all over it and seem to think the louder they swear and the more they strut around trying to look big and brave the more respect they we get from the other people stood around. This and not the case and they look more like childish yobs. On the weekends in particular the pitch is over run with organised football games where the men run around screamning hysterically and shouting and swearing. They are not at Wembly, this is not the FA cup final, Its five-a-side football. CALM DOWN!! I would not mind in the least if the people on the pitch could control themselves and not swear at the top of their voices and scream hysterically. There is a childrens park opposit, those small children should not have to listen to obscenities being bellowed at full volume just because some David Beckham wannabe cant control his hysterics or some 15 year old "hard man" is too busy trying to copy 50 Cent to realise he just looks pathetic. Children gather there after school and within minutes the pitch is covered in rubbish and food. It seems these people have never had parents teaching them basic manners and how to treat property that is not theirs. The language they use and the god awful noise they make is a stark remninder of the fact these CHILDREN see themselves as adults. I can only shudder to think what sort of adults these kids will become. They are little more than loud mouth yobs. I have had to ring the police and noise control on at least 5 occasions on the people who frequent that damn pitch. Would just be nice for the people who are so eager to keep it open to actually sort out some form of control and understanding of others from the people who use it.

As regards the Astroturf - on speaking to our youngsters over this side (i.e. general bumping into and speaking, not seeking out and speaking), it appears our youngsters this side are afraid of Tabard Park generally, especially after the dreadful events last summer. Their fears stem from the people coming 'in' to make use of the Astroturf, from other areas. For our own kids to be afraid to use their own Park is a crying shame and I don't know if the Powers that Be, are in any way aware of this situation. We surely need to support our kids to feel safe and happy in their own environment, and at the moment, I am afraid, this is not happening.
